    My City Diary

Inspired by the Miao pattern “Chen Chi Wen”, which recorded the city their ancestors had lived in. I am trying to present our contemporary cityscape in my fabrics. Modern cities look similar, our space is divided into varies squareness, we all lived in different size of cubic. In addition, all types of transportation and communication increase and the connection between people. There seems to have a complicated and invisible web connecting everyone just like tube map.

Laser cutting plays a important role in my work, the outline is one of the patterns of my design, those leftover rectangle fabric are made into patchworks and other effects. So there is little waste and every piece have connections. The patchwork i used here is a type of Chinese patchwork, Chinese Han people use it to make a traditional garment called Bai Jia Yi, these garments were made for new born babies.

The waste fabric exists at a large group of universities but being ignored by people for a long time. Many of the materials in this project were leftover fabric, I have been to LCF and charity shop to collect scraps and also gathered leftover fabrics from classmates and friends whose major is related to fashion design at universities. The garment is secondhand clothes, i am trying to increase their value and make them desirable.
